The design is based on the North Pacific Right Whale. They were called this because they were the "right" whale to hunt. This species is one of the rarest large whale species and is critically endangered. They were heavily hunted during the commercial whaling era, and their population has struggled to recover. Threats include entanglement in fishing gear, vessel strikes, and noise pollution.
