In 2001 I started doing Nature photography with the intention of having lots of great
photos to sell at craft fairs and art shows. I wanted to make photos that created
a peaceful easy feeling in the viewer. I asked John Gavrillis, the guy with the huge
photos of the Grand Canyon, what kind of camera he used He said he used a Linhof
4x5 and also a Pentax 6x7. Over the next 10 years, I used those and many other cameras.
I bought them on eBay, used them for a few months, then resold them for what I paid
for them. I bought several Hassleblads, a Pentax 645, Sinar 8x10, Wista and Linhof
4x5, Nikon F4, and several Olympus Digital cameras. I even made my own 4x5 out of
Now I use a D90.
I travelled all over the country, taking pictures between craft fairs (abeautifulpen.com)
at every national park, up and down each coast, and in my own backyard. Ansel Adams
said he was lucky to get one really good photo a year. I’m still waiting.
