African elephants, both the forest elephant and the savanna elephant, are considered threatened species due to habitat loss, poaching for ivory, and human-wildlife conflict. Forest elephants, found in the dense forests of Central and West Africa, are particularly vulnerable due to their restricted range and habitat fragmentation. Savanna elephants, inhabiting grasslands and woodlands across eastern and southern Africa, face similar threats but have larger populations. Both species are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and concerted conservation efforts are essential to ensure their long-term survival in the wild.
